The Russian 96th Tank Brigade was situated in the line to the right (from the Russian perspective, facing south) of the 92nd, opposite the 19th Panzer and on the left flank (from the German perspective) of the 6th Panzer Division spearhead. The 96th started the battle with a manpower strength of 1146 men. It had 6 T70s and 46 T34s. It reports loss of 8 T-34s on the 8th, when a single battalion attacked a nearby collective farm. What isn’t reported in Russian intel was the need, once the Russian tanks had withdrawn, to eject the accompanying infantry from the place, never an easy task.
