    CWATS 3.0 — Oak Hill

The fight for Oak Hill on July 1, 1863 formed the northern anchor of the Gettysburg battlefield and played a decisive role in shaping the opening day’s action. As Confederate forces under Rodes deployed along the ridge, Oak Hill became a dominant artillery platform, its elevation granting sweeping fields of fire over the I Corps and XI Corps positions to the south and east. Union troops advancing and withdrawing beneath its guns faced enfilade fire, sudden pressure from multiple directions, and the relentless weight of Confederate infantry pushing down from the high ground. CWATS 3.0 renders this critical sector with overhead infantry, authentic covered arcs, and large hexes that reveal the full tactical geometry of the ridge and its deadly influence on the battle.

    Included Scenarios

CWATS: Oak Hill includes six full scenarios, representing approximately 72 hours of play. These scenarios explore the unfolding fight for the northern heights, from the initial Confederate deployment to the pressure placed on the Union right as the Day 1 line began to collapse.

    About This Module

Oak Hill is designed to highlight the strengths of CWATS 3.0’s new Infantry & Gun presentation. Overhead soldiers with true covered arcs make enfilade fire, flank and rear charges, and column movement immediately visible on the map. The large hexes used in CWATS 3.0 allow ATS-style 5/* infantry counters to maneuver with clarity, giving players an intuitive understanding of regimental formations, artillery dominance, and the tactical challenges faced by both sides as the fight for the northern heights intensified.
