The ASLComp VOLGA Series begins here.
Over 20 years ago a full-size map, from worker's settlement outskirts to
the VOLGA - was presented to our ASLer audience. Back then, creativity
was married to 22" × 34" print spreads for sheet size, and cloudy
painted artwork, that often times ran over hexsides, or was hard to make
out for eyes that were in their 30's then.
ATSers have never had a go at the full
Traktorenwerk battlefield at Stalingrad.
Until NOW.
Now we have nothing against the old, painty map that many of you have
played over since presented in 1997. It has a poster quality about it.
The challenge was to come up with an ALL NEW way to create STALINGRAD,
not married to old anything. And you can know that we tried to teach
digital art for these maps to a well known personage of the wargame
realm with mixed results. So as is our wont, we went to new people - a
guy that day-jobbed at PIXAR, plus a new creator of urban warfare
buildings, and there are your cap tips.
Now what is the IDEA behind this new foray into the legendary
battlefield? Simple. There is no need to state bonafides at this point
as regards creating insane, linking battlefields that are modular-ized
with boards so one can play a tiny, one building focal point firefight
.. to, well, to A LARGE SWATH OF D-DAY.
So it starts with a set hex size, look and color palette for Stalingrad.
It continues with a new look for buildings, blended in well with the
retro art for a nice fit. It brings ATSers their first touch of the full
Traktorenwerk battlefield, with new scenarios treating the historical situations.
Includes:
>> Brand NEW largest ever Traktorenwerk Stalingrad Map - it's all there and start of a new series.
>> 10 new scenarios that all play on the new map.
