DJEBEL TAHENT, TUNISIA, 28 April 1943: Hill 531 served as a sentinel, situated along the approach to 609 and blocking all approaches to the latter. Support from 81mm mortars and heavy machine-guns were laid in and despite the expenditure of copious quantities of ammunition, and several unsuccessful attempts, Hill 531 remained in German hands.
