As an obvious progression from our Arab-Israeli Wars modules, the challenge to bring together the ideas of a variety of knowledgeable contributors was met in the form of ASLComp Moderns, aka "MASL." This is an ongoing series that brings the works of well-known designers including Pedro Ramis, Fred Schwarze and those in the military fraternity as an extension of the ASLRB. CH's publisher Ray Tapio invited his first superior and mentor Ken Brennan to the pages of CH magazine - since Ken was among the team at Fort Rucker, Alabama that 'wrote the book' on helicopter gunnery. The resulting article was added to in the form of a piece about CH designer Bob Davis's brother, a Huey pilot in Vietnam. Ken was a pilot for the U.S. Army Air Corps, and at one point was the bowling partner of the former Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Before being deposed, Pahlavi had a bowling alley built in Tehran ... and the call went out for 'someone who was a good bowler...' The work on moderns was added to with contributions by author and U.S. Army veteran Adam Geibel (click here to read his article from Military Review, Operation Anaconda, Shah-i-Khot Valley, Afghanistan, 2-10 March 2002. We also recognize contributions by Klaus Fischer, the designer of our first edition of LZ X-Ray, Jason Brown, George Windau, and others not named here. These modules cover the the years 1952 through the present and will be added to as military history continues to reveal itself in the current year. ASLComp MODERNS |
