The ASL FALL CLASSIC is being held this year at THE CITADEL in Groton, Connecticut on November 14-15, 1998. This is the same event held previously in Edison, New Jersey. Your hosts Dan Zucker and Chris Maloney are joined by The Citadel's owner, Pat Flory and the focus will be on HASL. Sponsor Critical Hit will provide HASL maps for use by the tournament goers, including DTW, Kellam's Bridge, Timmes' Orchard, Shanley's Hill, Those Ragged Bloody Heroes, Ruweisat Ridge, Stonne 1940, Pointe du Hoc, Old Jerusalem and Arnhem. CH will provide the counters needed to play the GENESIS '48 scenarios set on the Old Jerusalem map. Non-HASL scenario selections will also be available for participants. Plaques will be awarded on-site this year to the winners and the tournament will be featured in an upcoming issue of CH magazine and on the CH web site.

Open gaming will be available Friday night, November 13 at The Citadel. Pre-registration is $5.00, and it will be $10.00 at the door. Send your check or money order to: The Citadel, 537 Long Hill Road, Groton, CT 06340 and mark your envelope "Pre-Register ASL Fall Classic". Phone Pat Flory at 860-445-0641 with any questions.

Directions to The Citadel:

From 95 (South bound):
1) Take exit #87 (Industrial Access); it is the 1st left lane exit in
Connecticut.
2) Take the 1st exit on this road (it'll be 100 yards or 2 hexes so be in the
right lane).
3) Follow the signs for Rt. 1 North; these will have you make two quick right
turns leaving you on Rt. 1 North (If your car compass says 'south'... remember
you're in Connecticut so don't buy a new one).
4) Store is 1/2 mile down on the right After Ponderosa Steak House and before
Burger King. The 3 parking lots are connected.

From 95 (North bound):
1) Take exit #85 (Rt. 1 North). It is the 1st right hand exit after the Thames
river Bridge. However, look for the exit number not Rt. 1 North as 1/2 the Exits
from 95 in Connecticut are 'Rt. 1' , including one after a major river (people
have taken that)
2) Go straight on Rt. 1 North (see above about using compass) Store is 1 mile
down on the right After Ponderosa Steak House and before Burger King. The 3
parking lots are connected.

From 395 (south bound):
1) take exit #77 route 85.
2) Turn left at the end of the ramp onto 85 south.
3) From 85 go to 95 North and follow directions from 95 North.

From Western Massachusetts and the Hartford area:
1) Pick up Rt. 2 East (From 91 south) just before Hartford.
2) East on 2 to Rt. 11. Take Rt. 11 to where it ends.
3) from the exit ramp (where Rt. 11 ends) take a left go 1/2 mile to Rt. 85.
4) Take a right onto Rt. 85. drive about 10 miles (rough estimate)
5) From 85 go to 95 North and follow directions from 95 North.

From Long Island:

1) The best bet may be the Port Jefferson Ferry or the Orient Point Ferry. The Port Jeff Ferry puts in at Bridgeport and costs $30.00 per carload or $8.00 a person. The Orient Point ferry puts in at New London, a stone's throw from Groton. Check with the respective ferry authorities for reservations. What better way to travel and save time!

Parking: There is lots of parking; A large parking lot is found behind Ponderosa
Steak House. You may ignore the signs that say "Parking for Artware store only"
as that is Citadel parking as well.

PLEASE: Treat the 5 parking spots at the front of Citadel and Artware Store as
one hour parking. You will be asked to move your car from there.

Hotel Availability: The Quality Inn (860-445-8141) is $65.00 per night and the Econo Lodge (860-445-6550--across the street from the Quality Inn) is $55.00 per night.

Quality Inn Directions;

From 95 (South bound):
1) Take exit #87 (Industrial Access); it is the 1st left lane exit in
Connecticut.
2) Take the 1st exit on this road (it'll be 100 yards or 2 hexes so be in the
right lane).
3) At the 4 way stop (flashing red light) take a left.
4) Quality Inn is on the right about 5 hexes away.

From 95 (North bound):
1) Take exit #85 (Rt. 1 North). It is the 1st right hand exit after the Thames
river Bridge. However, look for the exit number not Rt. 1 North as 1/2 the Exits
from 95 in Connecticut are 'Rt. 1' , including one after a major river (people
have taken that)
2) Stay in the right lane and take the Bridge St. exit (or right at the fork).
3) At the end of the Ramp take a left. Quality Inn is 2 hexes away on the left.

Quality Inn to Citadel:
1) Turn left as you leave QI.
2) Go straight at the light (Right fork).
3) Merge with Rt. 1 North. The store is 1/2 mile down on the right.

GERMAN ASL HOBBYISTS ESPECIALLY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GRENADIER '98!

The Tournament Director for Grenadier '98 is long-time and expert ASL player Christian Koppmeyer 100556.3650@compuserve.com or you can get up to date information on the tourney at Klaus Fischer's web site, http://www.Fischers-design.com.The gathering will be from Friday 20.Nov through Sunday 22.Nov. The building will be opened on Friday at 10:00 CET.

Within these three days you should have plenty of time for friendly playing or to participate in the actual tournament (Saturday and Sunday). Since the tourney is for all ASLers (Newbies and Grognards) the playing mode will be oriented that way.

The tourney will be in the "Jugendlandhaus" in Hergarten. Hergarten is near Zülpich in the Eifel - the German part of the Ardennes, near the famous "Hürtgenwald". A Roadmap is now available at http://www.Fischers-design.com. The countryhouse is rented for three days and provides 40 beds, several showers and a kitchen. For playing we have two large rooms. We plan to provide Coffee and rolls for Saturday and Sunday mornings breakfast.

The fee for all three days (Participations, bed, and breakfast) is 70.- DM per person. If you arrive on Saturday the fee is 50.- DM. All you have to bring is a sleepingbag - and of course your ASL stuff. Drinks (Coke, Beer, Coffee) can be bought at the kitchen.

November is right around the corner and we suggest you pre-register as soon as possible. This will ease the organization for me.

Please send your registration (Name and date of arrival) via E-MAIL to:

Christian Koppmeyer 100556.3650@compuserve.com

or via "snail mail"

With your registration I have to ask for a down payment(?) of 20.- DM per person, since I already had to pay for the house. Please send these to my account:

BLZ 30020900
KtoNr. 2503620092
Stichwort Grenadier 98

I can't tell you much about the actual tournament (Mode, Scenarios etc) yet. As soon as I have some Ideas/details I will provide those here in the News section.

One last thing on the organization. As said, we have about 40 beds, and if we get 40 players this would ba a great success. But since I plan to post adds in "CriticalHit", "Musketier", and "General" we can't really exclude this possibility. Reservation of the beds will be on a first-come-first-serve basis, in the order of your registration (and your down payment). If all 40 beds are booked, there are several hotels in Hergarten - but you'd have to book those yourself.

I will provide all neccessary information on paper together with the tournament mode.
Until then you can "bombard" me with questions and comments. Please don't forget, this is our tourney, I'm only organizing.

See you at Grenadier '98!

Christian
