AGAINST ALL ODDS is a detailed ATS game that tells the story of the Battle of Normandy from the perspective of the 82nd Airborne soldiers tasked with defending the exits to Utah Beach on D-Day. Their assignment was critical—the survival of the beachhead at Utah depended on the airborne cordon. Hitler’s Panzers must not get through. The bridge at La Fiere, spanning the Merderet River, was the path that counter-attacking German troops would necessarily have to cross to penetrate to Utah Beach. Their crossing would be challenged by the men of the 505th Parachute Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. The ‘All American’ soldiers holding the bridge were armed with little more than a few bazookas, some Gammon grenades, and a lone 57mm anti-tank gun. What they lacked in armament would have to be made up in courage as Nazi soldiers began a series of attacks aimed at breaking the airborne hold on the bridge at La Fiere and crushing the beachhead at Utah Beach.
