Welcome to Pointe du Hoc, the D-Day
landing by the 2nd Ranger Battalion...
This is POINTE DU HOC, the game that depicts the invasion
of Normandy from the point of view of the individual squad and
leader. CH presents this battle in a man-for-man presentation
that encompasses virtually the entire Orders of Battle for both
combatants! After the landing and cliff assault, the 2nd Ranger
Battalion drove off one German counterattack after another as
they were pushed back to the edge of the cliffs in a fight for
their survival.
Small Unit Action...
POINTE DU HOC, NORMANDY, 6 June 1944: The destroyer
USS Satterlee observed enemy movements and swept the cliff-top
with fire from all guns; nevertheless, scattered fire from flanking
positions caused casualties as the Rangers debarked on the heavily
cratered beach. Colonel James Rudder, leading the three companies
of Rangers, was one of the first ashore. Germans suddenly appeared
on the cliff edge and began to harass the Rangers directly below
with rifle fire and hand grenades. This threat was driven back
by BAR gunners and another concentration of fire from the USS
Satterlee...
Extensive New Rules featured...
Pointe du Hoc features extensive new rules including Advanced
Climbing Rules, Rope Ladders, New MMC types for Army Rangers
and German sub-machine gunners. You also receive new NOBA rules,
Craters, Crater Banks, Shore Fire Control Parties, Blockhouses,
Gun Bunkers, DUKWs with Extension Ladders and more in a professionally
printed format ready to insert into your existing rulebook.

Special thanks to Phil Nobo (right) and Alan
Yates for their extensive on-site research. Alan was the provider
of invaluable info about buildings/site-architecture, geology,
camera angles, lighting...and much other useful stuff. Better
yet, it was the trip of a lifetime for Alan! Phil confirmed all
the details for his game map while on-site at Pointe du Hoc.
What makes Pointe du Hoc unique?
- The map was created on-site by map-maker Phil Nobo
- On-site data and photo visits by CH researchers
- Interviews with veterans were an intrinsic part of the design
effort, including our own CH interview session with famed 2nd
Ranger Battalion soldier William 'L-Rod' Petty with the game
map spread between the interviewer and Mr. Petty
- Unpublished memoirs were made available to CH by 'L-Rod;
Petty and Herm Stein and consulted for design purposes
- And our usual visit to the National Archives for fact checking
and to obtain rare photos
