![]() Talented designer Dave Lamb and Critical Hit, Inc. are proud to bring you back in time to the turning point of WW II on the Eastern Front - The Battle of Kursk 1943. Dave has utilized brand new Soviet OOB data to craft his scenarios and CG purchase tables - along with the design skills so evident in Brandenburger Bridge and other great Rout Report and CH scenarios - to bring you his brand new Kursk module. Dave is already at work on more Kursk action. Playtesters from Michigan to New York City went nuts over this module. It is a throwback to the promise of straightforward East Front warfare that brought so many SL guys into the system back in the days of BV. While there are many play nuances that separate novices from experts, the simple and brutal reality of the clash between the armored might of the 5th Guards Tank Army and elite German troops facing the onslaught will leap out at both beginner and expert alike.
In the face of murderous Soviet artillery fire from the higher opposite bank, the crossing at the Psel was accomplished by Lieutenant-Colonel Karl Ullrich and his 3rd Battalion, 6th SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment of Totenkopf Division. When the attack began to falter, Ullrich personally galvanized his men, leading them from the front. In the late hours of 10 July, 1943, the village of Krasny Oktybar was stormed, forming a bridgehead over the river. The last natural barrier before Kursk had been overcome. At Army HQ, Lieutenant-General Nikita Kruschev screamed at his subordinates endlessly, When are the reserves of the Steppe Front arriving? Where are the armored corps of Fifth Guards Tank Army? Before long, the Russian high command riveted their attention on this crucial sector, as the armored might of Fifth Guards Tank Army rumbled directly into SSTK for a frontal collision north of the Psel. CH's Module for squads and leaders, depicting the Battle of Kursk 1943: Psel River-Krasny Oktabyr.Krasny Oktabyr-Kliuchi, Russia, 11 July 1943: After a long night of struggling to secure little more than a tentative hold on the north bank of the Psel, the Totenkopfs Panzer Regiment received orders to expand the bridgehead and explore the Russian defensive positions in the region. Unbeknownst to them, the reinforced 95th Guards Rifle Division was moving into positions overlooking the village of Krasny Oktabyr. As the Germans moved up from the rivers edge, the two forces collided under a summer squall, mutual surprise giving way to ferocious fighting. The Russians charged through the rain into the midst of the German force. Fighting was at point blank range; tanks often shot each other at less than one hundred meters. Both sides lost several vehicles before they each fell back. The Germans aimed themselves at Hill 226.6, which clearly dominated the local landscape. This fight was only the first of several fought this day as the Russians struggled to hold them back... ![]() This is HELLs BRIDGEHEAD: THE BATTLE OF KURSK 1943, the module that depicts the fighting around the Psel River bridgehead, the critical high-water mark of elite German troops during Operation Zitadelle. What You Get:Map: HELLs BRIDGEHEAD includes a
