Critical Hit conducted a web survey of randomly selected Combat! owners and the vote is in. The Iron Cross counter is the 'Coolect Counter' in the system.
Asked why, the whopping three guys out of the 20 or so asked for their feedback along these lines pointed to the effects of the counter. When an Iron Cross (or Silver Star/Red Star) is placed on a unit, they ignore all morale checks for the rest of the game. Only a KIA result (E) stops them from making their appointed rounds.
Of course, if their appointed rounds happen to include grabbing that cellar your squad happens to be hunkering down in, you might not seem to think things are so 'cool'. They might get a little hot!

Dave Lamb, the designer of Hell's Bridgehead, is feeling pretty good these days. His very first SQUADS & LEADERS module has received critical acclaim in an extensive recent article in VIEW FROM THE TRENCHES.
Dave's research included sources from behind the former Iron Curtain. His order of battle information has not developed any leaks and was the result of a lot of hard work and correspondence with published authorities on the subject of the Battle of Kursk.
Hell's Bridgehead includes a sheet of mounted, die-cut counters, favorite goodies among the SL crowd. They include special markers for Tank Ramming, plus MMC and SMC counters for use with the module.

The final piece in the 1998 CH Module Plans (Patton and Mannerheim Plans) landed at the CH assembly shop on February 12, 2001. The final result, known as GENESIS 48, is a far cry from the original module, pre-ordered by plan members back in spring/summer 1998.
The original advertising text detailed a six scenario module with historical map and special rules. It was chosen by many plan members, impatient with the delay but fully cognizant of the fact that the deep discounts provided by their plan membership made the game FREE.
